BritCham joins the Zhongguancun Forum
On Thursday 27th March, the British Chamber led a delegation of Chamber members to join innovators from across China and the world at last week’s Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing – one of China’s leading fora on high-tech innovation and development.
In his speech at the forum’s session on cross-border data transfer issues, British Chamber Managing Director Graeme Wallace drew attention to the challenges faced by both multinational businesses and SMEs in transferring data in and out of China. “Measures such as exemptions, pilot zones, and systematic categorisation standards are positive steps forward. Moving forward, we will continue to facilitate exchanges between businesses and regulators, working towards a regulatory framework that balances security with economic vitality in this digital era,” he said.
The British Chamber also signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the forum with key players in the data standards environment, enabling members to benefit from direct government engagement opportunities on key trade issues in data moving forward. This continues the momentum of previous engagements on this crucial cross-cutting issue, including engagements with the Beijing CAC and MOFCOM in recent weeks.
All BritCham members are warmly invited to join the Chamber’s AI and Data Working Group – a network for discussing shared issues in cross-border data transfer, networking with like-minded professionals, and advocating for data solutions that work for businesses of all kinds. Members can get in touch with our advocacy team at advocacy@britishchamber.cn for more information on how to join.
