The Role

The Hutong Education Team is looking for exceptional individuals to join our team of Program Coordinators who are responsible for developing, planning, and delivering our programs around Greater China and South East Asia. Program coordinators are organisational champions and leaders. To ensure that their program delivers on The Hutong’s Mission to provide exceptional cultural experiences in a fun, learning environment, Program Coordinators meet the needs of the program and set a standard of proactive leadership to the entire program team and throughout a program’s life cycle. 

We are looking for someone with a passion for education, a proactive attitude, strong activity facilitation skills, and a desire to present our exceptional experiential education programs with a heightened level of professionalism and a can-do attitude. We are looking for a team member with a passion for learning, the outdoors, and sustainable travel; someone who is eager to share their perspectives, passions, and expertise with educational groups of every age, with the utmost care and thoroughness while upholding our brand promise of partnership, professionalism, and consistency.

Responsibilities (What You’ll Do)

  • Lead education programs, especially during our busy fall and spring seasons, and facilitate programs as the visible organizational champion in charge of programming, group dynamics, and upholding our brand promise;
  • Lead the preparation and planning of your programs, ensuring it is set up for success and delivers on our mission of providing exceptional cultural experiences in a fun learning environment. 
  • Be a strong collaborator with our experienced operations team to have a strong working understanding of our booking, costing, and vendor management processes. Support where needed
  • Be a key collaborator in idea generation and program design, in concert with the Experiences (product) team, that is customized to each client school’s specifications;
  • Be a key collaborator in program development, researching and developing new areas for educational programs from start to finish. 
  • Conduct site visits with clients and walkthrough with local partners, carrying out risk assessments and promoting The Hutong’s Culture of Safety
  • Provide in-house trainings relating to “exceptional program execution” and programming content and its facilitation;
  • Assist in managing communications with client schools on matters concerning program execution;
  • Coordinate content used in our written programming materials, including facilitation notes and handbook content;
  • Negotiate with clients, and understand and meet their needs;
  • Coordinate the submission of all relevant follow-up documents, including expenses, program notes, supplies, photo compilations, etc.
  • Collaborate with cross-regional team members (Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong).
  • Manage and support the positive dynamics of a multinational team on the road with student groups;
  • Represent and embody the fun, inclusive, and passionate reputation that The Hutong staff are known for;

  • You are a clear and professional communicator: You have strong verbal communication skills and are confidently able to lead groups. You are excellent at written communications, able to write and respond to client requests in a proficient and professional manner. Fluency in spoken and written English is required; proficiency in spoken Mandarin is a plus.
  • You are equipped for the role: You have strong work experience in related fields, including leading student groups on experiential learning or travel programs. You are efficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and are willing to learn new tools like InDesign. A legal right to work in China is preferred.
