Exchange with the Beijing CAC

On March 11, 2025, the British Chamber of Commerce in China visited the Cyberspace Administration of Beijing Municipality for an exchange and discussion session, where both sides shared insights on cybersecurity, data governance, and IT policies.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the challenges foreign companies face in navigating China’s rapidly evolving cybersecurity and IT regulations, which have consistently ranked as one of the top concerns over the past six years according to the BritCham Sentiment Survey. BritCham highlighted the gap between policy implementation and practical application, emphasising the need for greater transparency and clarity to help businesses comply effectively. As an independent advocate, BritCham provided feedback and recommendations on regulatory challenges, the foreign business environment, and operational issues. The Cyberspace Administration of Beijing Municipality acknowledged these concerns and expressed its commitment to supporting foreign businesses operating in China. Both sides agreed to establish a working mechanism to ensure regular communication, enhance transparency, and address practical challenges.

This visit also aligns closely with BritCham’s newly established Data/AI Working Group, which aims to address emerging regulatory and operational challenges in these critical areas. The collaboration with the Cyberspace Administration of Beijing Municipality underscores the importance of integrating working group insights into broader policy discussions, fostering more effective and practical outcomes for members. Both parties have reached an agreement to conduct quarterly exchanges between the Cyberspace Administration and BritCham, alongside its members, ensuring more collaborative engagement.
