中国的零售，食品和饮料行业近年来发展迅猛。英国产品不仅在中国享有高品质的声誉，而且在多年的消费需求推动下，英国在设计，创新，交易标准，培训，风险评估，科学研究和保障体系方面也拥有丰富的经验。

根据英国环境,食物及乡村事务部 （Defra）公布的贸易数据，英国2017年对中国的食品和饮料出口增长了28%，达到5.644亿英镑。出口增加促使中国成为英国第八大食品和饮料进口国，比起2016年上涨一位。
在中国，英国威士忌和啤酒的需求很高。
去年，中国进口了价值6180万英镑的英国威士忌，比2016年增长了47％。英国啤酒在中国的饮用者中也越来越受欢迎，其中4500万英镑的啤酒运往中国，同比增长127％。其他出口到中国的产品包括猪肉，奶酪，奶粉，三文鱼和英式下午茶产品，例如果酱，烤饼，茶叶和蛋糕。据英国食品和饮料联合会称，这主要得益于英国电视节目如《唐顿庄园》和《英国家庭烘焙大赛》的热播。
