Trump, Tariffs, and Transatlantic Rifts at “China Now 2025”
Property bubbles, demographic transition, and spend spend spend: these were the three big topics of discussion at this year’s China Now 2025 – our annual wrap-up of the Chinese Government’s “Two Sessions.”
We were delighted to host Martin Wolf, the FT’s Chief Economics Commentator, in conversation with BritCham Vice Chair Chris Torrens. In a wide-ranging conversation covering Trump, the threat of tariffs, and space for the UK to mediate between China, Europe, and the US, Martin brought decades of experience in financial journalism and witty insights to a packed-out auditorium of BritCham members.
A fantastic panel discussion followed, with rich insights shared from Qian Liu, Alfredo Montufar-Helu, and Ning Zhu on macroeconomics, politics, and international relations. At a challenging time for all three of these areas, their expert insights deepened members’ thinking around this year’s Lianghui and the resulting policy changes expected.
A big thank you to each of our speakers for joining us!
