‘Be yourself and persevere’ – International Women’s Day luncheon
On this year’s International Women’s Day, the British Chamber in Beijing and the British Embassy brought together a number of exceptional speakers in the Ambassador’s Residence, for an illuminating discussion on breaking the bias in the workplace.
Our expert speakers shared their own experiences of discrimination and bias in their careers, as well as what steps they had taken to promote gender equality and a fairer working environment.
They discussed barriers to female participation, as well as the role of individuals and governments in breaking down those barriers, combining a push for change from the grassroots with a supportive “tone from the top”. The event ended with a strong message: in standing up and being ourselves, we can help to break biases.
Thank you to our excellent speakers Louise Liu (Managing Director, The Economist Group Greater China), Siddharth Chatterjee (United Nations Resident Co-ordinator to China), Ninette Dodoo (Partner, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP) and Danae Dholakia (Minister-Counsellor Global Challenges, British Embassy Beijing).
