Reuters is looking for a dynamic China correspondent with great ideas and energy to cover political and general news, based in Beijing. This is an opportunity to report on one of the most exciting, demanding and important stories anywhere, covering China for a global audience at a momentous time for the country and its place in the world. President Xi Jinping is widely expected to secure an unprecedented third term as president this year, as COVID restrictions threaten the world’s second-largest economy and test Xi’s signature ‘common prosperity’ economic reforms. China’s anti-West stance and diplomatic support for Russia has left it more isolated than ever.
As China Correspondent, you will:
- Report and write stories on politics, diplomacy and society, ranging from Xi Jinping’s march towards a likely third leadership term, the future of the dynamic zero-covid policy and its impact on the economy, to China’s fast-evolving relations with the West.
- Have sources or a proven ability to develop them, break news, spot trends and report and write insightful, deeply reported initiative stories
- Be part of a diverse and high-performing multi-media newsroom, working closely with colleagues
To be China Correspondent, you will:
- Have great ideas for stories that help explain China to a global audience with an insatiable appetite for exclusive and insightful news
- Have fluent Mandarin and be a strong English writer
- Write fast, accurately and with flair
- Be tenacious in overcoming roadblocks to reporting in a challenging environment
- Be skilled at taking photos and video, or show willingness to learn
- Be a team player with a sense of humor
