Are you a motivated, detail-oriented individual with an interest in UK-China relations?

The British Chamber is currently looking for a Government Relations & Policy Intern (native Chinese-speaker) and Policy Intern (native English-speaker) to support on our policy and advocacy work with the aim of influencing UK-China trade negotiations. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your own understanding of China’s policymaking and business environment.

 

About the British Chamber

As the voice of British business in China we:

  • Speak with business leaders at Rolls-Royce, The Economist, Shell and other British companies of all sizes on regulatory challenges and opportunities in China
  • Present our research to the British Embassy, the Ministry of Commerce, the NDRC and other key government stakeholders
  • Produce thought leadership pieces on topics such as the 14th Five-Year Plan, China-UK relations, China’s cybersecurity landscape and other critical topics for trade relations

Government Relations & Policy Intern

(Chinese native speaker)

What will you be expected to do?
  • Support the policy team on the delivery of British Business in China: Sentiment Survey 2022 (one of the Chamber’s two key policy documents), providing support across the whole process, including question formulation, data collection, data interpretation,  drafting, publication and post-launch activities
  • Track policy developments relevant to British businesses in China
  • Support communication with business and government stakeholders on policy issues/initiatives
  • Assist with logistics in organising policy events
  • Assist in producing the Chamber’s ‘China in Five’ weekly policy updates
  • Collate BritCham China members’ comments on draft regulations
  • Assist in English-Chinese translation for Chamber communications and media copy
  • Conduct research relating to the Chamber’s policy work and knowledge events
  • Provide support on reviewing translations

What do we expect from you?

Essential skills

  • Chinese native speaker with excellent English language skills, preferably in Beijing
  • Background in law, economics, business, public policy, international relations, languages or other relevant areas
  • Can work 3-5 days a week, start preferably in July/August and work for 3-6 months
  • A foundational understanding of China and Chinese public policy
  • Strong personal interest in China’s industrial and trade policy
  • Good research ability
  • A strong work ethic
  • IT skills (including Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite)

Policy Intern

(English native or near-native speaker)

What will you be expected to do?
