About the Role
This role will focus on identification of opportunities for conference launch or acquisition, and product development in line with the overarching STMJ China Strategy. Reporting the Global Director of Conferences , the successful applicant will work closely with colleagues in Publishing, Sales, and Marketing teams, and will develop relationships with high-profile academic institutions to develop new opportunities for commercially viable events, and new product offerings to serve a changing environment. Based in the Elsevier office in Beijing, China, and collaborating closely with Elsevier colleagues in Europe, this is an exciting and dynamic career opportunity for someone with a passion for facilitating scientific communication, customer delight, and networking in China.
Responsibilities
- Develop best practices and product offering for a variety of Elsevier conferences in China in collaboration with internal stakeholders in publishing, marketing and sales
- Ensure that our product offering and requisite systems and processes are fit for purpose in the Chinese and international markets
- Work closely with publishing colleagues to solicit and shape conference launch proposals
- Identify attractive conference opportunities based on analytical approach (market intelligence, publishing requirements, key partnerships)
- Conduct regular competitor analysis and internal conference evaluations. Identify and implement new technologies, ideas, and products to improve conference series for China market.
- Oversee all aspects of China-based conference development, including working with internal stakeholders to evaluate and choose conference proposals through internal approval processes, facilitating sponsorship, developing partnerships with high-profile academic institutions, and managing logistics and vendor relationships via operational team (in house or external)
- Be responsible for liaising with the conference team, publishing, external chairs/committee, sales, and marketing to ensure that timelines and revenue targets are met within the China conferences portfolio.
- Assist in building relationships with institute contacts and logistical preparations for new meeting series when required.
- Contribute to commercial product development targeted for the China market.
- Contribute to the developing China strategic and tactical plans
- Domestic and occasional international travel will be required (20%)
Requirements
- BS or Masters level education in business, sciences, or marketing
- Three or four years’ relevant experience with conference organization, product management, industry, or commercial work
- Business planning and project management skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Proven collaborative capabilities with both internal stakeholders and external partners
- Previous experience working closely with product, marketing, commercial, and sales
- Experience developing and delivering new ideas, self-motivated
- Strong analytical skills and a data-driven mindset
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and priorities
- High level of comfort with the digital world, particularly community and content marketing
- A positive, enthusiastic outlook and creative problem-solving capabilities
- Strong language fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese
- Flexible scheduling to work within international meeting hours
