As the voice of British business in China, BritCham Southwest China, along with its partner Chambers in Beijing, Guangdong and Shanghai advocates on behalf of our members to the British and Chinese governments to better direct trade relations.

Position: General Manager

Type of position: Full time – 5x Days a week

Salary Range: Salary – Competitive

Region: Chengdu, Sichuan

Location: IFS, Jinjiang District, Chengdu

Duration: 1 year (3 x months’ probation)

Annual Leave: 15 Days

Major role responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all the day-to-day administration and operations of the Chamber and the Chamber office.
  • Work with the Executive Committee and Committee Chair and representatives to execute the Chambers business plan.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with key stakeholders of partners, other BritChams in China, local & international companies, British Consulate-General in Chongqing, local government, incoming investment projects, non-profits and charities.
  • Expand membership; grow new member recruitment, actively target new members and ensure appropriate materials & messaging.
  • Overall responsibility for BritCham SW’s financial situation; preparing budget, monitoring monthly accounts and ensuring operational success in hitting targets
  • In charge of BritCham SW marketing channels include wechat official account, email campaign, website and Linkedin
  • To set and maintain an image of the Chamber satisfactory to the membership, including events and activities that encourage membership to grow
  • Plan and deliver diverse events programme that meet the membership’s expectations, provide opportunities for business networking, and support members’ business activities in Southwest China with timely, up-to-date, relevant information.
  • Oversee a diverse events programme that engages members with regular and engaging events including both community social events and content-driven knowledge events.
  • Play a leading role in relationship building and management with members, especially premium members.
  • Explore sponsorship and partnership opportunities with members and stakeholders within the UK business community.
  • Be the “face” of BritCham Southwest China for supporting chamber members and partners’ events and activities.

Essential skills:

  • Outstanding communication and influencing skills – both in English and Chinese
  • 3+ years of experience in driving business development and sales results
  • Degree-level education or above

Desirable characteristics of the ideal candidate:

  • Energy, enthusiasm, resilience and well self-management
  • A track record in building key relationships which have generated revenue on a sustainable basis.
  • Previous government engagement experience
  • Public speaking and media experience
  • Leadership and management skills and experience – plan strategically with the ability to work practically

  • Proactive and problem-solving skills
  • An enterprising and entrepreneurial nature
  • Multi-tasking, prioritisation and time management skills are essential
  • Ability and confidence to navigate and negotiate with multiple partners and stakeholders at senior level and experience of working in complex multi-partner environments
  • Experience working to and exceeding targets
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong work ethic and resilience in the face of challenges
  • Ability to thrive under a fast-paced work environment
  • Experience working to and exceeding targets
