About the Chamber
The British Chamber of Commerce in China (BritCham) represents the interests of British businesses operating in China, providing advocacy, policy insight, and networking opportunities. We are seeking a talented Government Affairs Executive/Manager to join our team in Beijing. This role will focus on policy analysis, government engagement, and member support — with seniority determined by the candidate’s experience.
Roles & Responsibilities
Advocacy Reports, Initiatives & Presentations (50%)
The British Chamber tracks and provides policy recommendations across 10 industries (e.g. Agriculture, F&B, Education, Energy, Financial Services, Sport). The successful candidate will monitor policy updates, engage with stakeholders, and develop policy recommendations across three assigned sectors, based on their expertise and the team’s needs.
- Draft industry or cross-sector contributions for the Chamber’s annual flagship British Business in China Position Paper and Sentiment Survey.
- Organise and lead industry roundtables, sector-specific events, and member interviews to inform advocacy work.
- Monitor and summarise major Chinese policy announcements and international developments relevant to British businesses.
- Present advocacy findings to stakeholders, including the British and Chinese governments, and support the Executive Committee in shaping key messages.
Chinese Government Engagement (30%)
- Serve as the primary working-level contact between the Chamber and key Chinese government stakeholders (e.g. MOFCOM, CCPIT, IDCPC).
- Build and maintain relationships with other relevant ministries and entities aligned with advocacy priorities.
- Liaise with government contacts to coordinate and facilitate meetings, ensuring smooth logistics.
- Support colleagues in connecting with government bodies for sector-specific advocacy needs.
- Provide occasional translation support during government meetings.
Membership, Events & Communications Support (20%)
- Partner with the Membership Manager to identify and recruit potential members, especially in assigned sectors.
- Manage and engage relationships with member companies and external stakeholders.
- Support the Events Manager by recommending topics, speakers, and industry expertise for relevant events.
- Assist the Marketing & Communications Manager with Chinese-language content, including drafting speeches and supporting media outreach.
- Represent the Chamber at off-site events to gather policy insights, support member engagement, or explore new member recruitment opportunities.

- Strong project management skills, including resource planning and the ability to deliver work to tight deadlines.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with the confidence to take ownership of sector-specific initiatives and drive them forward.
- Collaborative mindset, with a willingness to support colleagues beyond your immediate portfolio when needed.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Genuine interest in China’s policy environment, demonstrated through study, experience, or past work.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience in public policy, government affairs, communications, NGO, or academia.
- 2+ years’ experience for consideration as Executive; 5+ years’ experience for consideration as Manager.
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Fluent English and native-level Chinese (spoken and written).
- Strong research, analysis, and report-writing abilities.
Desirable Extras
- A master’s degree in a relevant discipline, ideally with overseas study or work experience.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and engaging Chinese government entities.
- Translation experience, either formal or ad hoc, in a professional setting.

- Monthly salary: RMB 12,000–16,000 (commensurate with experience).
