Policy Analyst

British Chamber Of Commerce in China

Location: Beijing

This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual with a keen interest in China’s political economy and UK-China relations to join a dynamic business organisation. The successful candidate will work on a variety of the British Chamber’s policy and advocacy initiatives with the aim of influencing China’s business environment and UK-China trade policy. Through this role, you will develop an in-depth understanding of China’s trade policy and business environment, while working alongside senior government officials and business leaders from some of the UK’s largest multinational companies.

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Work as part of the policy team on our full range of advocacy and policy initiatives
  • Track major policy announcements from Chinese regulators and global developments relevant to British businesses in China
  • Produce the British Chamber’s annual Position Paper including convening roundtable meetings with business leaders and writing sector chapters
  • Produce the British Chamber’s annual Sentiment Survey including planning, encouraging participation among members, analysing data and drafting the report
  • Engage and manage relationships with government, member companies and other external stakeholders
  • Support on planning and delivering policy events and webinars
  • Proactively develop short research projects and thought leadership articles

Qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum two years’ relevant work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject area (politics, economics, public policy, international relations, business etc.). A postgraduate degree is desirable but not essential
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English and the ability to adapt messages to suit different channels and audiences
  • Attention to detail
  • At least intermediate proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, particularly in reading
  • Familiarity with and keen interest in China’s economy and business environment; specific knowledge of automotive, built environment and/or energy sectors a plus
  • Strong time management skills and an ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Skills in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships
